A word of thanks appreciation, partnership and gratitude to all our clients; |
Marshall Errock Construction in conjunction with Cruden Building in Edinburgh are delighted to announce and introduce our new Apprentice Mr Sam Anderson; promoted with Local Community Benefit with our client, CRUDEN’S Since inception of M.E.C. Ltd in August 1983, we have consistently year on year had an “investment in youth policy”. This we have a philosophy of “investment in the future”, as our youth…. are our future! In the past 40-years of trading, we have successfully invested in apprentices, and at Oldham College had the accolade of our apprentices being awarded “apprentice of the year award” (for our Bricklaying and Stone Mason apprenticeships, which was no small achievement given the award was meant to be across all trades); for 9-years out of 12-years that the College ran that particular scheme. |
My own boss back in 1975, when I set out on a journey and a career in the Construction Industry, as a Bricklayer and Stone Mason, relayed “once you have a trade” you’ll never be out of work!
Never a truer word said; as demand for good quality bricklayers and stone masons will only ever be on the increase in coming years, and we feel at MEC (a view shared by Cruden), that it is imperative (for all the Construction Industry), to promote, encourage and invest in Apprentices.
A warm welcome on board to Mr Sam Anderson, and wishing him every success and to fulfil his potential to join the elite ranks of Tradesman Bricklayer for many years to come.
Hearty congratulation and good luck from all at MEC and Cruden Building.
Mr Paul G Errock
(Co-Founder and current Managing Director of Marshall Errock Construction Ltd)
Summerhill Housing Scheme | CHAP GROUP Ltd
Having completed Horizon House and Ardent House Industrial Units and Offices for Robertson’s (who later went on to award MEC a three-year 3-phase project in Edinburgh), and delivering South of the City High School for Balfour Beatty, we continued our presence in Aberdeen by carrying out Powis Place Student Accommodation for Kier Group.
Powis Place Student Accommodation went onto entered and win the following awards;

- 2016 AIA Award (Residential)

Powis Place is for Student Residents and accommodates 196 student rooms.
Following M.E.C. Ltd achievements in these categories, we were invited by CHAP GROUP in 2019 to provide a quote to develop a tender in partnership in planning a three-year project budget for 369 residential flats in the city for Aberdeen City Council.
Located on an old derelict School Site, the development to provide these houses/homes, utilised “brownfield sites” and did not encroach on the beautiful environment, wildlife habitat and countryside that Aberdeen has been so marvellously blessed with.
From an environmental perspective, it was very well received by all.
Marshall Errock Construction Ltd commenced the project in October 2020, and together with the main contractor CHAP’s co-ordinated to build eight blocks to a maximum of four storey’s incorporating infrastructure, amenity spaces, car parking 1, 2 and 3-bedroom flats.
As of July 2023, we are now in the process of nearing completion of the remaining blocks of which many of the previous completed blocks are now fully occupied.
We are delighted to have been involved in the project, and look forward to continued projects across the Northern Belt of Scotland.
The attached photographs provide and insight into project delivery, which included apprentice training, HSE – with zero reportable incidents, Q.A. tracking, co-ordination, regular programming, planning and interfacing with all trades.

• The project involves the construction of flats and all associated infrastructure including roads, parking areas, drainage, services and amenity spaces for Aberdeen City Council.
• This includes a mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom flats with all 369 flats being for social rent tenure by the Council.
• The flats are contained within eight blocks with a maximum height of four storeys.
• The proposed development has two parallel streets on an east west axis both providing for two-way vehicular movements.
• The streets will have parking perpendicular to the road.
• Signage and traffic calming measures will be used to slow traffic and create an environment welcoming to pedestrians.
• A key feature of the development is a central core of open space overlooked by the flats.
• The project also includes works outwith the site boundary to the adjoining roads including Lang Stracht.
• The 1, 2 and 3-bedroom flats are located on the site of the former Summerhill Academy on Gairsay Road in the city. CHAP has been contracted to construct the flats and all associated infrastructure including roads, parking areas, drainage, services and amenity spaces.
• Aberdeen City Council housing spokesperson Councillor Sandra Macdonald said: “It is fantastic that work is taking place on the Summerhill site again and I’m sure local residents and particularly children will be excited to see the big crane working at the site as the building work progresses in the coming months.
• “The building site at Summerhill will help new residents and the wider area as the construction contract has a comprehensive programme of community benefits, including apprenticeships and early learning activities.
Access to quality housing greatly improves the quality of life for residents by creating new communities and opening up new social and economic horizons.”

The Engine Yard Development EDINBURGH
| PLACES FOR PEOPLE/ALLEN BUILD
Marshall Errock Construction Ltd carried out the Masonry Brick and Blockwork at Hymers College in Hull for Allenbuild; this led onto M.E.C. Ltd being awarded Skipton Building Society Headquarters in North Yorkshire (using hand pitched stone), for Allenbuild/Turner, whom eventually were amalgamated into “Places for People”!
On “Places for People” carrying out due diligence on Marshall Errock Construction Ltd ability to deliver large and complex schemes, coupled with our extensive history spanning over 2-decades of having a presence in Edinburgh; we were invited to develop a long-term tender to carry out the Masonry Brick and Blockwork element of one of the most major and prestigious developments at The Engine Yard in Edinburgh.
Interestingly, this former railway yard (Brownfield Site), was used in the opening sequence of the 1996 infamous “Trainspotting Movie”, starring Ewan McGregor and Danny Boyle.
A regeneration project to create 377 new homes in the heart of Edinburgh.
The client incorporated old with the new by developing homes from The Engine Yards original structures, providing a unique design of stunning 1, 2 and 3 bedroomed homes and Penthouses.
Off road underground parking and featured terraced roof decks and private gardens, just some of the amazing features this fabulous development offers.
Also utilising a redundant brownfield site for homes, it ticks many boxes for the environment and sustainability.
Commencing in 2018, M.E.C. Ltd were awarded multiple phases throughout the duration, to deliver to high standards, safely, included apprenticeship training, and worked as part of a team alongside all other specialist sub-contractors on the project.
The project is a credit to all involved, and we would extend a sincere thank you to PLACES FOR PEOPLE for choosing M.E.C. Ltd as its preferred Masonry Brick and Blockwork Contractor on this superb development.
Very proud to be part of this scheme.
